Performance Evaluation of Shear Wall-Frame Interaction System Based on Location of Shear Wall

Prasad Vaidya

Abstract

Several considerations govern the structural configuration of buildings, with primary constraints provided by functional and aesthetic requirements as desired by the owner and executed by the architect. After deciding the structural system the structural engineer must decide on location, distribution and configuration of lateral force resisting elements both in plan and in elevation. This step is of paramount importance in design process to ensure the building perform as envisioned during seismic event. In this paper seismic performance different locations of shear wall is studied with respect to strength and stiffness. Finite element software E-TABS has been used for modeling and analysis of building. Seismic performance of various shear wall locations have been compared and finally most efficient location is determined on the basis of analysis results.
