Pneumatic Press Machine with Progressive Die with Deep Drawing and Punching

Abstract

—Progressive dies are widely used for press machines to perform multiple operations for manufacturing products at a high rate. Using separate machines for performing separate operations consumes more time which reduces production efficiency. In the present paper, an attempt had been made to design a new prototype die to accomplish the required deep drawing and punching operations. In this die, both drawing and punching operations are accomplished in a single stroke in a series of steps. So, it is called progressive die. The first step consists of deep drawing in which the work piece is formed to a hemispherical shape. The second step consists of punches of required diameter of holes which are provided at desired position on upper die and the cavities of holes are provided on lower die. Both the steps are performed in a single stroke using a pneumatic press machine. Thus, the required operations are executed at once. Also, replaceable compression springs have been provided which resists the force of ram or upper punch, so that, the job which requires less force to be implemented can be produced on the press machine of higher tonnage. The spring absorbs excess force of punching ram
